Our Story
After more than a decade in business development management roles with large-scale contracting and engineering consulting firms in NZ and Europe, Bid Consult founder Mike Blanch was ready for a change. When the opportunity to be part of a tender team supporting a large-scale (circa $ 1 billion NZ) term maintenance contract came along in 2014 he didn’t hesitate to jump. Bid Consult was established as the vehicle to support that and future opportunities.
A small but loyal group of clients was quickly established, which also provided flexibility for Mike to take a hands-on role with his young family.
With the kids now older and with additional capacity added to the Bid Consult team, our client base has grown quickly. We now support over a dozen clients across a diverse range of sectors, with the capacity to add selected clients who are complementary to our existing client base.

As managing director, Mike has led Bid Consult’s delivery of 100+ submissions valued at over $1.5 billion of potential revenue over the past decade. With $900 million secured, Bid Consult has helped deliver significant growth for our clients. His relevant experience includes:
20 years tendering experience in NZ and Europe
30 years infrastructure sector experience
Previous experience in business development roles, together with operations, project, and customer services management experience
Working for local authorities, government agencies, consultancies and contractors prior to establishing Bid Consult
Managed over 250 tenders with a career win rate of 50%+
Ian Cathcart
BSc (Hons) Earth Science, MSc Water Management, MBA
A proven leader with broad international experience, Ian has held senior executive roles with central government agencies, local authorities, and commercial service providers. He adds a valuable point of difference to our tender strategy and review offering. Ian’s relevant experience includes:
25-year infrastructure career spanning governance, executive, operations and business development in NZ, the UK and USA
Experienced tender evaluator, including evaluating tenders for NZ central and local government organisations
Executive management experience for an NZ Local Authority, responsible for water, waste, roading, project delivery, parks and facilities
Previously Country Manager of a complex global environmental services business, Veolia NZ, with revenue $65m+ and over 250 staff
Highly respected infrastructure professional, with internationally regarded expertise in the three-waters sector
